How to Create More Time

by Firefalls on March 30, 2011

Do you ever get the feeling that there’s just not enough time in a day?

I say this kind of rhetorically because I know we all feel this this way from time to time. I’m finding, and I don’t think I’m alone, that the demands of life, our “HAVE-to’s” constantly overwhelm our “WANT-to’s”. Between working 60+ hours a week, coming home and dealing with the household work that needs to get done, not to mention family responsibilities it’s easy to see why we all seem to have less and less time to do what we’d like.

One of my main want-to things to do is just pick up a good book to learn something new or read some good fiction for some new ideas. But I find every time I sit down to read a paper or a good book there’s always something that needs to get done instead, a higher priority.

After giving some thought to this dilemma I’ve realized that I spend probably an hour a day commuting to work each day. So at least an hour each day I spend sitting in car typically listening to the radio. The more I thought about it, I realized I was really wasting a lot of time when I could be “killing two birds with one stone”.

My car stereo’s cd player plays mp3 formatted cd’s and also has an aux input for an iPod so it dawned on me, why not spend this time listening to the books I don’t have time to read?

A friend of mine introduced me to a great site called audible.com. Audible.com allows you purchase an audio book for less than the actual cost of buying a new book. You download the book and then can use an mp3 player or an iPod to listen to it.

The real beauty here is that I listen to these books while in my car driving, or doing housework (or some other “have-to” chore). So I turn otherwise unproductive time into very productive time. (Killing two birds with one stone)

Right now you can get a audio book absolutely free, just for signing up for a trial membership.  You can download a free audio book of your choice (they have over 85,000 books to choose from) The audio books will play on almost any portable device, or on your computer itself.

Just sign up, choose your book, and begin your download. It’s that simple. (And if you have an Amazon.com account, the whole signup process takes a matter of seconds. Audible is part of Amazon.com)

After the 14 day trial, you can opt out of the program and keep the book. Or you can stay with this valuable program and keep productive when normally you’ d be completely unproductive.
